Topic 3 Reflection

When Dr. Totonchi showed her slides comparing fixed mindset and learning mindset praise sentences, I instantly knew what to do differently from now on. It is so easy to maintain status-quo and it takes effort to grow and meet challenge. I’ve been an ardent advocate for growing through effort and overcoming obstacles, I new that holding on the fixed mindset prevents growth.

It is especially important for our students. I’ve heard many times something like “I am not good at math”, “I am not good at learning”. I always remind students that there is no-one who is good at something instantly. Learning is difficult and may take time. Now I will be more conscious about my praise language, to make sure I avoid inadvertent fixed mindset suggestions.
