Reflection 3:

Self-efficacy and motivation are intertwined concepts. Students’ belief about their own abilities fosters a growth mindset. What really moved me during the presentations for Topic 3 was the better understanding of the far-reaching impact of an instructor’s genuine belief in a student’s potential to succeed. Some strategies I plan to use in my classes to build confidence in their potential are: focus on belonging using activities and self-reflection throughout the semester; manifest open care for the students and build familiarity and trust in the class; promote a growth mindset and positive group identity, and establish regular calming rituals like meditation (include students to present a mindfulness activity at the start of every class meeting).
