The conversation about high-level and low-level strategies really stuck out to me. Here, I would like to more intentionally focus on how students are taking notes in my courses. – Though there will be an aspect of modeling needed, I also want to present opportunities for students to receive feedback and improve their skills. One idea that was mentioned in our large group discussion that I will likely implement is giving students the opportunity to submit their notes for extra credit. Another idea that I really connected with was leveraging concept maps to better understand how students are organizing information, and redirecting where needed.
When it comes to integrating student experiences into my courses, I would like leverage the student experiences with developmental processes as a pathway to them connecting more deeply with the material. I typically open my courses highlighting the fact they all have some connection to development and culture. However, this upcoming semester, I will be placing a greater focus on helping students make these connections (possibly through student reflections, or again through concept maps).
