Outside forces have a large impact on how we perceive our world. When we receive and interpret messages that imply we do not belong or do not fit we believe them. If we want our students to thrive we need to deliver messages of not only inclusion but of value. We need to teach our students that their presence adds value to the learning environments. By doing so not only do they learn their value they learn that every student has value regardless of their background. Students who believe he belong are more likely to be engaged and succeed.
